Are Diamonds Still a Girls Best Friend?

Diamonds, so the saying goes, are a girls best friend. To be honest I'm not sure that stands up in the the current financial climate; the modern women generally speaking is not as shallow as the phrase (which lets face was taken from a musical in the 1950s) might suggest. I'm thinking a girl would settle for a good night in with a glass of vintage wine and some Ben and Jerry's ice cream. However there are times in every girls life when a brilliant sparkling diamond will do just as well....

Marriage as an institution may not be as popular as it once was, but whether you propose to the woman of your dreams or not its nice to present her with some sort of ring as a statement of intent and expression of your undying love. In these circumstances a diamond ring is ideal.

There are plenty of online jewellery outlets offering diamond rings and necklaces at eye-watering prices, but fortunately the are plenty of voucher code directories offering discounts codes for merchants like H Samuel, F Hinds and Diamond Manufacturers (click here for an example of some Diamond Manufacturers Voucher Codes. So if you shop around you are bound to find the right diamond at the right price.

When buying Diamonds you should take into account the 4Cs - Cut, Clarity, Colour & Carat. Each of these different elements of a diamond will affect its overall value.

1. Cut. The cut is probably the single most important quality factor. A poorly cut diamond will reduce its value dramatically, even if it has a good ratings in color and clarity.

2. Clarity. Most diamonds are formed with flaws, or inclusions. The clarity of the diamond will be affected by the visibility, number and size of these inclusions. Diamonds that are clear create more brilliance, and thus are more highly prized, and priced

3. Most diamonds have a slightly yellow or brown color. With the exception of some natural fancy colors (blue, pink, violet, green, or red (expensive one), the colorless grade is the most valuable.

4. Carat Weight determines the size of the diamond, but is not in itself a guide to its overall value. You should combine the carat weight with the other 3 factors to determine the quality of the diamond you are buying your girl.
